Why do providers of social and emotional learning systems and character education systems vary greatly as to what core ethical values are? What is more important in building caring or character - our thoughts or our feelings? To what extent do I help a child do something and to what extent do I let him or her figure it out alone? Is religious belief important to be a person who is caring or of good character? Teachers teach children to have good values ... how do teachers find ways to hone what they teach? What is a good balance between, being explicitly told what good values are and finding ways in education for children to learn through their experiences? Why do peace building efforts often come after conflict - why can't they begin more at a time not preceded by immediate conflict. Why do I sometimes not act friendly to people who are in a different economic or social class than I am? Is caring just being kind and helpful or is it a whole way of being that includes being respectful , fair, responsible and more? What is better to do, praise and compliment a lot or let that stroking come more from within? Is there a fine line between showing my anger with respect or expressing it in a way that is not respectful? I understand there are over 300 providers of products that build character
or social and emotional learning - where are they and which one(s) might
work best for me? |
