1.
Talks, workshops and conferences to be aware of
We are listing a number of organizations that host or list talks, workshops and conferences. We begin with two organizations that provide an extensive list caring oriented workshops and conferences.

CASEL - The Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning

and

CEP - Character Education Partnership.

The particular value of these two organizations is that in addition to information regarding workshops and conferences, they also provide information about organizations that offer programs and trainings for building caring programs at schools.

After listing links for these two organizations, I am sharing links of other organizations that offer workshops and conferences that I have learned of or experienced that are not either CASELís or CEPís list of current links. In part this can be due to their listings concentrating more on gatherings in the closer future and I am showing information further out.

The Soul of Education: Helping Student Find Connection, Compassion and Character at School

February 18-20 , 2005. Bolder, Colorado. Experience renewal at this intensive institute for teachers, counselors and administrators on building heart, spirit and community in the classroom. This exceptional event will be facilitated by Rachael Kessler, a nationally known presenter and author of the ASCD-published book, The Soul of Education: Helping Students Find Connection, Compassion, and Character at School.

The course covers:

* The theory of social and emotional learning (SEL)
* The integration of play, ritual, stillness, expressive arts and community building
* How to develop your own reflectiveness and teaching presence
* How to help students focus, increase their motivation to learn, create caring in the classroom, and develop empathy and compassion
* Stages of group development and methods appropriate to each

More information about these courses, and additional workshop locations and dates can be found on the Passage Ways Institute website.
